The TAGT Research Division is pleased to announce the creation of a new blog where members can submit and publish short, research-based articles and blogs of interest to our community. This blog is designed to give undergraduates, graduates, and practitioners an opportunity to share their recent research, review the literature, and state the implications of their work for K-12 educators. Article submissions should follow this format: 300-350 words: Summary of the current research findings/review of the literature 350-400 words: Implications for K-12 teachers (practitioners?) How do your findings apply in the classroom? What are the major takeaways? ...

Improving Dialogue

This year we are going to embrace the constructivist model of knowledge acquisition. Implementing a hands-on student centered curriculum with the focus being on improving and increasing the amount of dialogue between students and between students and teachers. We are looking for the levels and duration of these discussions to increase. We hope to achieve this by allowing ample opportunity for the students to engage in conversations related to the ongoing investigation. Field notebooks will be emphasized, with the Math and Science teacher collaborating with the ELAR teacher on writing assignments and expectations.

I want to learn more about secondary program designs in other districts. I know high school is a whole different animal with tracks, endorsements and schools within the school but I would like to understand how students can be served in middle and high school. Currently we have an elementary pull-out program that uses a multi-curriculum PBL model. After that, students are in pre-AP and AP classes. Are your students clustered? Do you have a special GT class for all GT or classes for specific subjects? Do you use a program like Stanford?

The Next Chapter

Well, folks, aside from my husband, you'll be the first to know. Officially, as of today, I got all the paperwork finalized, and I begin working toward my Doctorate in Education in Leadership and Management at the end of the month! I'm excited and a little scared, but I know I have a strong base of support that I can call upon. I hope to make some good friends here who will expand that base. I've wanted this for some time, but I've been too frightened or told myself I was too busy to pursue it. But I can't do that anymore. No more excuses. No more perendination! I will be Dr. Sasser, and it will be amazing!
